FAQs
Q. What is League Age for LHLL Baseball?
A. When referring to a player’s age, LHLL will always use the
player's league age. League Age is a player's age on April 30th of
the current season. This is the age used to determine what division
the player is eligible to participate in for the current season. See
chart on sign-up pages for more details.
Examples:
A player will turn 10 on May 8th. He is league age 9 for the
current season because on April 30th his age is 9.
A prospective player will turn 5 on June 2nd. He is league age
4 and is NOT eligible to play T-Ball because the minimum age to
participate in Little League is league age 5.
Q. My child is league age 6; can I sign him/her up for A-ball Coach
Pitch instead of T-Ball?
A. All first year league 6 year olds play in T-Ball. This is a
Little League National rule, not a LHLL local rule. Player's of
league age 6 are only eligible for A-ball Coach Pitch if the player
played T-Ball in LHLL the previous season.
Q. What divisions should a player sign up for?
A. All first year LHLL league age 5 and 6 year olds play T-Ball. Players who
played T-Ball and A last season must indicate on the
application what division they want to play in this season. Players
who played in AA, AAA, Majors and Juniors last season must attend
the skills check and be drafted onto a team by the division
managers. No player will ever move down a division. For first time
players here are some factors to consider when deciding what
division to sign your player up for. Can he/she catch and throw the
ball consistently? (Not you throwing the ball into their mitt.) Is
he aware of the game, or is he/she just having fun being with his
friends? Was he/she bored last season, not you, your child? Probably
the best thing to do is just ask your child.
Q. How are teams formed?
A. T-Ball and A-Ball Coach Pitch teams are formed by the LHLL
Players Agent and the division commissioner. Factors used to form
the teams are: previous experience, special requests and what
schools they attend (for friends and car pooling needs).
AA, AAA, Majors, Junior and Senior teams are picked by the
managers in a draft attended only by the managers and overseen by
the LHLL Player Agent and that division’s commissioner. The
manager’s draft the players based on their evaluation of the player
in the tryouts. There are no requests accepted for these
divisions. For any questions or issues you must contact the LHLL
Player Agent within one week of the tryouts and prior to the draft.
Any issues must be worked out prior to the draft.
Q. Can a special request be made to place a player on a team with
friends or a specified manager’s team?
A. Special Team placement requests can only be made for players in T-Ball
and A-Ball Coach Pitch and the request must be made in
writing to the LHLL Player agent by January 15th. LHLL will try to
honor these requests, but they are not guaranteed. Please do not
make special requests for AA, AAA, Majors, Junior or Seniors for
they will not be considered. See ‘How are teams formed’ question
above?
Q. Are siblings put on the same team?
A. In T-Ball and A-ball Coach Pitch, yes.
For siblings in AA, AAA, Majors, Junior and Senior the players
are selected by the managers in a draft. The rule is buy one get
two. The brother or sister, if in the same division’s draft will be
placed on the same team automatically unless otherwise requested in
writing to the Player agent before January 15th. .
